Stadt in der Provinz Turin, Piemont, Italien, am Fuß der Alpen, 376 m über dem Meeresspiegel, 35 100 Einwohner; Bischofssitz; Papier-, Textil-, elektrotechnische, Nahrungsmittel-, chemische Industrie, Maschinenbau.
 
 
Dom (1044, im Wesentlichen 14. Jahrhundert) mit Campanile (15. Jahrhundert); San Maurizio (1078, erneuert 1470) mit Fürstengruft des Hauses Savoyen. Häuser aus dem 15. und 16. Jahrhundert
 
 
Pinerolo, erstmals 981 urkundlich erwähnt und seit dem 14. Jahrhundert zur Festung ausgebaut, war 1295-1418 den Fürsten von Achaia unterstellt und fiel danach an die Herzöge von Savoyen. Pinerolo stand mehrfach unter französischer Besetzung (1536-44, 1631-96, als Folge des Mantuanischen Erbfolgekriegs; 1801-14). Die Festung, nach Plänen des französischen Baumeisters Vauban ausgebaut, im 17. Jahrhundert französisches Staatsgefängnis, wurde vor dem Abzug der französischen Truppen 1696 geschleift.
